The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in BLS, AED and Management of Anaphylaxis for Adults, Children and Infants (RQF) is designed for anyone who has a specific interest or responsibility at work, or through voluntary and community activities, to provide basic life support (BLS), safely use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and manage a casualty experiencing anaphylaxis.

This nationally recognised qualification is based on the latest recommendations from the Resuscitation Council UK and guidance from leading experts in emergency medical care.

Delivered in a practical and supportive environment, this course will give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond effectively in an emergency involving adults, children and infants.

What will you learn?

  • During this practical course you will learn:

  • How to carry out a scene survey and assess an emergency safely.

  • How to perform a primary survey on an adult, child and infant.

  • How to recognise when CPR is needed.

  • Adult, child and infant CPR using training manikins.

  • How to safely use an automated external defibrillator (AED) on an adult, child and infant.

  • Important considerations when providing CPR and using an AED.

  • When to place a casualty in the recovery position.

  • How to safely place an adult, child or infant into the recovery position.

  • How to monitor a casualty's breathing whilst they are in the recovery position.

  • How to recognise the signs and symptoms of suspected anaphylaxis.

  • How to provide first aid for someone experiencing anaphylaxis.

  • How and when to use an adrenaline auto-injector (such as an EpiPen).

By the end of the course, you'll have the practical skills and confidence to respond quickly and effectively in an emergency involving cardiac arrest or anaphylaxis, while waiting for the emergency services to arrive.

  • Course duration: Approximately 4 hours.

  • Assessment is carried out continuously throughout the course through practical observation.

  • Successful learners will receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in BLS, AED and Management of Anaphylaxis for Adults, Children and Infants (RQF) certificate.

  • This is an Ofqual-regulated qualification.

  • Certificates are valid for 3 years.

  • Learners must be physically able to carry out the practical elements of the course, including CPR performed on the floor.

  • The minimum age for this qualification is 14 years.
